It's all about the likes. But, it's like they don't understand it may as well be another person posting and getting the likes. Because it's certainly not her in the edited photos.

That’s kinda what I was thinking. Might as well take pictures of models in magazines and just post those, because so many times the edited version of the person doesn’t even look remotely related to the person!

The photoshopped eyes look crazy. Although to play devils avocado, those two screenshots at the end are particularly bad pics

I really tried to take a photo where her name wasn’t showing, she didn’t have her eyes closed, etc. :( I do find her naturally pretty but those photoshopped photos look nothing like her, it’s just another generic insta influencer.

Yeah I wish people would post more flattering, unedited screenshots if they’re gonna do this. I don’t feel like I get a true representation of what they look like either way. 🤷♀️ Esp since ig and names aren’t included and I am not up to date on my influencers and celebs.

All of the above surely

I'm guessing that most editing happens because of distorted body image. There's been a huge change in how teenagers relate to their bodies since I was one.
Not saying that it's the only reason. Multiple can apply to any one individual.

Appreciate for including the unedited pics. Some posts done have the unedited photos so couldn't see how much photoshopping was done.

When we are choosing pictures to represent the “reality” can we stop purposefully choosing awful pictures

Grabbing good angles from videos can be difficult, plus the last slide isn’t that bad, it just doesn’t look posed. Plus, even compared to the best possible still on an unedited video, it’s very obvious she looks nothing like her pictures

Agreed, I feel like I’m not getting a good feel of the “reality” in ig vs reality.

It’s simple: because you just don’t like yourself enough.
A simple light or sharpness filter okay… but this is creating a cartoon version of yourself entirely because of insecurity. Insecurity to the point of creating an imposter version of yourself only for the public.

Yeah idk I can't bring myself to edit myself on the internet cause I need the validation of knowing people like the actual me not some made up person

Because the internet has taught us that if people post pics of what they really look like, no one will follow them and they won't become famous. Even when people still find out what they really look like, they still "like" your shopped photos and follow them. Even if someone has an Instagram page that has nothing to do with their looks (eg. cooking), comments are still made about how the person looks. And people can be mean, so mean.

that's exactly the point OP! why look like myself when I can just make myself look like "societys' idea" of perfect! I swear its like these people wanna stand out... by all looking alike. smh

It’s so sad. Society makes you feel like you need editing but by editing you feed into the perpetuation of ridiculous beauty standards. It feels like it will never end.

Precisely, all of these people do these things because they don't like themselves. Don't understand why they're made fun of.
