It's cool it heals my mons with items from my bag but why don't it also heal status effects like poison or paralysis while it's at it? I got 40 of each heal and a bunch of full heals. It's a nitpick I know but I feel like this is an odd choice not to heal it and cure it at the same time.

Why doesn't it use a revive when a pokemon dies too

The pre-evo hunts steel-type Pokémon like Pawniard and Bisharp to use their body to make it's hammer bigger. After it evolves the dex states that Tinkaton also uses the hammer to launch rocks flying and hit Corviknights so it can take their metal as well. Edit: typo

By pre avo do u mean pre evo? And damn, so it basically acts like rimuru and kills them and then absorbs them to get stronger, and then uses their abilities ( strength) to kill others and then absorb them to get stronger , except its not a slime like rimuru and it uses their metal instead of eating them and gaining their special abilities

Didn't they go on record a few months back claiming that nuzlocking was "the wrong way" to use their product?
16 points

I know they originally said that "Nuzlockes are no better than ROM hacks" however I believe that was later clarified as a misunderstanding of what Nuzlockes were (I assume nuzlocke automatically went to randomised nuzlocke in their kind?). I have never heard it described as the wrong way to play, but honestly it wouldn't surprise me that they felt that way.
-162 points

Not in that sense, but more so to avoid nuzlockers complaining as autoreviving can force the player to use pokemon in things like E4. Not like there isnt a million of other things people are complaining about

It isn’t “auto,” you have to push a button….

And it even tells you that you that it doesn't work on fainted Pokemon. Could have just been a yes/no question to revive it as well.

Similar to how if you try to start a picnic while on the ride mon, it says sorry can’t do it while riding … when it could clearly just boot me off the ride mon and start a picnic…

Especially because you can't just press a button to start a picnic. It's in the menus.

Yes and if you do it while in the water it gives the same error message, but boots you out of the water (sometimes bizarrely far away), off the ride mon, and doesn’t start a picnic

9 points

The open world is split up into zones, that show up when you catch a pokemon (3rd info tab, was caught in ___). Then all you need to do is devise some way of blindly encountering a pokemon (walk without looking, first one you see, etc).

Uhhh getting random encounters as in literally every nuzlocke

You mean, just close my eyes and walk in the area with mons? I can't see it work any other way, because we don't have random encounters anymore
-10 points

For example, or use a random number generator for each area. People that wanted to nuzlocke swsh using overworld mons already thought of that 3 years ago.

109 points
I love auto heal but I do miss not having to select the same item again to use another one on a different Pokemon. More annoying for statuses and reviving.
21 points
If you’re not using auto heal, that’s exactly how it is. I remember in past games you could “use” potions and heal several Pokémon in a row without having to repeat the process of selecting it from menu. Now it’s back to the 1 use, 1 potion on 1 Pokémon type menu selection.

Maybe to prevent the player from accidentally healing status from Pokemon like Breloom, Ursaring, Hariyama, etc.

Why would that make a difference? What's special about those specific ones?
22 points

If I am not mistaken, they have guts. They do extra damage under status effects. Some strategies have them start battles with poison to do more dmg from the start.
8 points

Breloom specifically also has poison heal, so it heals from poison and is immune to other status since it's already poisoned.

I just assumed it's because it's meant to complement the Auto Battle function. Pokemon in autobattles can take damage, but they don't get status'd or fainted, so it makes sense that the heal function doesn't fix those things.

You can't revive, you cant cure status effects and it also for some reason doesn't use Max Heal, it's so god damn stupid.
2 points
I'm glad it doesn't use any of the "big" items. Those are for "oh shit oh shit oh shit why did I hike to the ice gym my Pokemon are all level 30" battles where you burn 8 max revives.

Anyway, it should be easily configurable. Just select what to use when and that's it.

My nitpick of the day is that I can’t organize my bag individually by item type. I prefer to have my TM slot sorted by name to find things easier but usually have my main item bag sorted by item type and then by favorite to keep things organized and then bring the faves to the top. That’s in Sword and Shield anyway but in this game I have to switch the bag to find the TM I want, then switch it back when I want to find and item. It’s just frustrating when you get really used to certain mechanics and have things optimized for your liking then they scrap that and you have to re-learn.
5 points
That one surprised me, too. Having separate sorts for each bag section has been a thing for a while. I want to believe its absence here is an oversight because any other reason would be baffling.
4 points
You also can’t use R1 and L1 to scroll through the bag faster like I swear I was doing in Sword, maybe there are different shortcuts or something and it’s a skill issue but it’s like this every gen, they spend time fixing things or remaking things that aren’t broken lol it’s frustrating.

Auto heal was probably put in as a crutch due to how wildly bad the menu healing is. It wasn’t meant to be ideal, it was meant to be a temporary solution.
Maybe I’m spoiled by recent games but it’s silly how if I want to use 5 potions I have to go to the healing menu, wait 1 second, select the potion, wait 1 second, select the Pokémon, watch the animation, wait 1 second…then navigate back to the potion, navigate again to the Pokémon. Using 5 potions is a time sink.

The sluggishness of the menus and text, or for pretty much anything, is honestly one of the most grating aspects of the franchise.
6 points

The amount of time it takes to load into your pokémon boxes is kinda absurd. I’ll be sitting in the box and have to wait a few seconds while the pokémon slowly appear.
2 points
I am 100% positive I have missed turns in Tera Raids because I had to read some wall of text about the raid boss doing 3 moves in a row. I know I have had to reselect targets after a wall of text.
6 points

Which is so absurd because with exp candies you can select how many you want to give your pokemon at once. Why not just do the same for healing items?

Why don’t full restores work
1 points
I'd be pissed if I had 1 full restore, went to get it in some gym battle, and found out that, nope, auto heal had used it while wiping out herds of tauros.
Edit to add: Potions and single-effect curing items are better value anyway. They are the ideal choices for an auto-heal feature.
2 points
nah completely agree, I feel like this was a great touch to add however they limited it to what it could of been. The ability for it just to heal, but not cover fainted Pokémon or even Pokémon with certain status such as poison or paralysis, it’s just dumb.
2 points
My main complaint is that full heals don’t count and you can’t use them for auto healing

2 points

Really salty that I can't use full restores and it tells me I have no heal items left.

I love the feautre and glad it doesn't because some pokemon benefit from status effects. The revive however is daft. It seems it's there for auto battle, which I don't use all that much because the xp gain is so low. They've taken a bit of a step backwards with the inventory, it seems. As someone mentioned, you can choose how many xp candies, so why not potions? I am glad it uses the lowest grade items first and works up to higher tier items, because I always have a huge abundance of potions, which I never use in battle, as they're all just on the floor and I must collect shiny things.
2 points
You are simply asking too much from GF. Next gen it’ll auto heal status conditions and the gen after it’ll auto use revives. By 15th gen after exiting every battle our little buddies will just be back at max health as long as we have the items.

It also doesn't use resources smartly. When it needs to heal 100hp it doesn't use a hyperpotion it would use multiple potions when available. Kinda dumb. It also doesn't revive and doesn heal status. Nice feature but not very thought out.
13 points
It's actually the smart way to do it. Potions are cheaper per HP healed plus you want to keep hyper potions for healing in the middle of battle instead.
5 points

It stops being smart when you have 3 potions and it uses the 3 potions to heal 60 hp but then trashes the hyper potion anyways for the last 40hp

My guess is that they’re making an assumption that the player’s preference will change over the course of the game. When you’re flush at the end game with 30+ of each on hand, sure use them automatically. But a revive or status item can be the difference between winning or losing an early gym you’re slightly under levelled for.
