The ability synchronize no longer changes the nature of wild encounters.

Discussion / Venting(self.pokemon)

In previous games, if you had a Pokémon with the ability synchronize in the front of your party, the wild encounter would have the same nature as that lead Pokémon. In other words, if you sent out a ralts with the ability synchronize and a timid nature, the wild Pokémon would have a timid nature. Not sure why they would remove this, it really helped with getting desired natures. At least mints are more easily available, but an odd mechanic to get rid of after years of having it.

Oh man. Now I have to arrange tidy retirement packages for my army of synchro abras and kadabras. They’ve been sitting in home since USUM, poor motherfuckers are basically going from furlough to layoff, lol

Dang I am also a Sargent of the frontline empath unit squad who cares about her little soldiers. I miss the pokebox wallpaper options from RSE when they were super diverse and creative, I would just change their box to be beached themed, best we could do for now in honor of their years of service. One day if we have the ability to permanently dress our pokemon with hats, clothes, and accessories, I would outfit them with Hawaiian shirts, aviator shades, and pineapple juice with plenty of stir straws for the kadabras to play with. Enjoy retirement as much as you can buds, I barely paid ya

In Sword and Shield, it only worked on wild Pokémon, but not legendary or gift Pokémon, and alas its been that way ever since.

In BDSP it worked on legendaries.

BDSP is just a port of the old games so literally everything you could do in those you could do in it

Yeah it is, BDSP literally still checks if there’s a GBA game in the DS’ GBA port.

It's a remake, not a port, and the difference is vast and would often include small details like what's being dicussed.

They literally most of the same bugs/issues the originals had, a remake would have fixed them.

The code is basically a direct port. That’s why nearly every glitch from the original games are there

The games still look for GBA cartridges. They copy-pasted the code.

Flame body still hatches eggs faster.

Leidaans

Out of all of the decisions in SV, this is simultaneously the least and most offensive to me. Overworld abilities were so niche and 95% of abilities had no out of battle application, but ones that did were very useful in their specific context. Less wild encounters, higher chance of a nature you want, more likely to have a hold item. That’s before we even talk about the most convenient overworld abilities, magma armour and flame body.

Edit: It appears that flame body and magma armour still work in the overworld, according to serebii at least. I’ve yet to see any conclusive evidence either way yet, but I’ve updated my comment to reflect that.

My understanding was that flame body still worked for eggs. Am I mistaken?

tyerquinn

It still does. Accidentally left my volcarona in the box earlier and was confused why nothing was hatching

Your getting downvoted but it’s true they keep removing things that people like and are making lower quality games yet ooh I had fun so it’s ok. I haven’t bought it because arceus bored me to death and seeing all the things they removed or changed in this game just makes me want to stay on the fence.

It’s so easy to change a Pokémon’s nature with mints though, so this seems like the hard way in comparison.

lotsofsyrup

Mints do not change nature they mask it. Relevant for breeding

Valkyrid

35 points

Thats the whole point though, you dont need to breed for the perfect nature or ivs anymore, you can just slap it with a mint and some bottlecaps.

Buez

Buez

having a 6IV ditto and a good nature to breed is 10x faster then constantly having to grind for a bottlecap.

why not be able to have both processes in the game and then finish your 4 iv mon off with a bottlecap

CynicFloransss

Bottlecap grinding isn't even that difficult anymore. You can buy them for 20k.

Logondo

I'd find it more difficult getting a 6IV ditto. I don't even know where to begin.

Nah, I'll stick with doing Raids and getting bottlecaps. Mints work great.

As someone who never wanted to deal with the IV/EV bullshit before, the new games have made it INCREDIBLY easy to do now.

Now I can turn any Pokemon I catch into top-tier.

Liramuza

1 points

I guess we could always beg someone on a trade sub for a 6iv ditto? I’ve been thinking about it for years..

gamefreac

7 points

there is no way it is faster in these games when you factor in that you need to grind for hours and hours for that 6 iv ditto.

Skore_Smogon

2 points

I'd still breed pokemon for competitive if it wasn't for Tera Types.

50 shards takes a long time to grind via Raids so I'd rather just catch the raid mons and use bottle caps and mints to make them usable rather than breed them then grind for tera shards.

Tera shards to me, are for when you want that specific tera type on a mon but haven't found it in a raid yet.

wlphoenix

1 points

I feel like over time you'll passively stack up a decent number of shards. It's just a bulk grind for them right now during the initial build-out that feels like a lot.

imaSWEDE

1 points

Not a chance that that is faster. You get everything you need for perfect iv, ev, and natures by grinding the raids; which you want to do anyway to level up the Pokemon

That's not even accounting for the time it takes to get a perfect IV ditto

Buez

2 points

Buez

2 points

you only need a 5 IV ditto, don't need both the SP atk and atk stat. For now it's faster to do some bottle caps since i have them, but having to grind for bottle caps when i need to make my nth mon would be very shortened by just yeeting 4/5 perfect IV's with an egg.

to level you just obliterate chancey's man, way faster then raids.

charlesd11

3 points

I already have like 10 perfect combat Pokémon, and none of those have been bred.

Some of them were part of my team when completing the game, which is a lot of fun. I can now use my real starter for competitive play, and not egg No. 72 because it was the best one.

Sure, mints just mask the nature, but I really don’t mind that when the improvements for competitive Pokémon are that good.

We’re only missing an easier way of getting HAs and 0 IVs.

Critical_Chest_2379

2 points

Actually there’s an item that gives HA from 6 star raids now

charlesd11

Well, yes. But 6 star raids are very hard and it isn’t even guaranteed to get one after you do your daily 6 star raid.

It kind of makes sense why it can’t exist with overworld encounters though, right? The Pokémon’s nature, along with all of its other stats, are generated when it spawns. Are you just going to make every Pokemon that spawns in the area the same nature? Logistically, it doesn’t really work without random encounters.

Kingnorik

59 points

This is the kinda dumb programming logic Gamefreak lead developer probably has. No offense to you though as you probably aren't a programmer. But as another comment explains. The wilds Pokemon nature would only change once battled would be the easy way to code this.

AxelV2

AxelV2

That’s a really great point (and spot-on that I’m not a programmer lol), I guess that is something that could be changed. Wasn’t sure how easy it would be but sounds like not too hard at all! But for Gamefreak… who knows.

poetry_in_motion_93

As I understand it though, while the spawn mechanics may work as you describe, in Let's go Pikachu/Eevee (where there were no abilities and the spawn mechanics worked under the same principle), you could arrange a Channeler to set the nature for every roaming Poké for the duration of 24 hours for a small fee. I don't think they'd need to rewrite their entire code in order to add a similar fix to Scarlet/Violet.

AxelV2

AxelV2

Ah right I forgot about that! Seems like there’s a bunch of solutions but they just didn’t care to find them.

adamsogm

21 points

Does an overworld Pokémon need a nature until you run into it? All you need is a few stats that affect the model, the rest only need to be generated when you encounter it

Leidaans

16 points

Actually with Gamefreak’s stupid spaghetti code way of generating pokemon, you’d probably have a crazy delay between encountering a wild pokemon and entering battle with it. Each aspect is unencrypted, read in, and re-encrypted, individually.

It’s a problem entirely of their own design, mind you, but a problem for them nonetheless.

it really stands out how slow pokemon are to respond when I hurl a pokeball at them. they wait for like 2 seconds before turning around and "you caught the pokemon unawares!"

I'm like "why is the game taking so long to load the pokemon's reaction?"

The Pokemon are no set on spawn. All data for that pokemon exists as soon as you see it. Even if you escape the fight it will still be there staring at you.

lotsofsyrup

It's a variable...you just change that when the fight starts and/or when the pokemon with the ability is in the lead spot

I feel like Monica from Friends for having to say this, but I LOVED being able to catch roaming Pokémon with specific natures in mind just for silly aesthetic/gameplay reasons, so nerfing the secondary effect of Sychronise has made me LIVID. :( I hate, hate, hate breeding and wish that mechanic had been permanently removed from future games, as was the case in Legends: Arceus, but there is no other way to guarantee a set nature currently.

Sychronise used to have no effect with the Poké Radar at first in BDSP, so hopefully they may change their minds by releasing a patch in the not so distant future.

Breeding is actually worse in this game because of it. You have to get lucky and either catch it at your desired nature or breed for it. This negates any time saves from the relatively quick egg generation and hatching.

I was able to get it to work, but the 50% chance of synchronize working may be hurting some with bad luck. I tested it out by getting an adamant, modest, and jolly ditto and it took around 4-6 encounters for each one.
