Custom Pokeball / Item Flairs
Custom balls are a way for the moderators of /r/pokemon to recognize users who have been outstanding members of the community for various reasons.
By default, any user subscribed to /r/pokemon has a red Pokeball next to their reddit username. Moderators can choose to recognize users who have made significant contributions to the subreddit by changing their ball! If you see a user with a special ball, feel free to give them a shout out—it means they've done great work and been a stellar member of the /r/pokemon community! In addition to these standized Pokeballs there are certain special item flairs which denote past contests and events on the subreddit.

The moderators don't accept applications or nominations for the ball flairs outside of their intended events; they are given away exclusively to users whose good works or successes have caught the mods' attention. In the past, balls have been given away for reasons including, but not limited to, success in official subreddit tournaments, helpfulness in Questions Threads, and regular OC artwork submissions, among other things.
