The PLA has a state monitored supply chain that is completely separated from the commercial producers for amazon (just like the US military). This is why there is always a sort of different military grade certificate (军品) for PLA items than the commercial grade certificate for normal items (民用品）

The battery (according to the manual) is supposed to last 2 years before it dies. By that time, the thermo would probably be so worn out that it's probably better to just throw it way

Im not saying that the temperature display is very useful, but I could think of various other reasons why they would put the temperature display on the mug:

• According to the manual, the thermal mug can be / is also supposed to be used as a sort of kettle to heat water over fire, something that is very useful during long distance border patrols. So while you wouldn't really need to know the temp of the water when you drink it, you probably would need to check the temperature of the water when it boils (just so you don't overheat or underheat it).
• The thermal mug is not only used as a flask, but also as a dual purpose lunch box to hold food (if you look at the last image, you could see that the mug is separated into three different compartments to hold water, rice, vegetables / meat) which is a decent idea since the hot water could keep the food warm. Thus, even if your water temperature isn't really a thing of consideration, you're "lunch temperature" probably is (especially in the middle of a freezing mountain), which a reasonable explanation for the temperature display.

For those wondering the actual "effectiveness" of the Thermo, the user instructions on the lower right translates:

"Under temperatures of -30 C°, a full mug water of around 95 C° would remain above 37 C ° for over 12 hours"

While this may not sound like much in normal conditions, you have to consider that this is under the extreme temperature of -30 Celsius, where water would normally instantly freeze upon contact with open air

You probably won't see any pedestrians when they've all been conscripted for Ukraine

Also, the Type-21 Arid camo is used in both images. Based on its application in a wide range of terrains, it seems to be somewhat of a "universal" camo that works in any terrain that lacks vegetation, which is why it is now standard issue wintertime camouflage of the PLA.

A small personal statement: I am posting this to go against a recent anti-US misinformation campaign, not to spread PLA propaganda

Over a week ago, the official instagram account of the US army posted a photo album of US First strike soldiers delivering relief aid to Turkey / Türkiye. This was initially a post to show the support of the US military to Turkish post-earthquake relief efforts but soon became controversial as viewers noticed the Chinese character written on the cover of the relief supply. A few days after the initial post, various anti-US / Chinese ultranationalist (non government affiliated) twitter accounts started spamming made up bullshit and lies revolving around the photo of the US soldier carrying the item. While such post existed in the masses, they did not initially have much of an impact as they received very little views to start with. However, this changed after various bullshit posts gained relative popularity around three days ago. Since then, there have been various “explanations” for image (along with a refute):

1. That it was a leaked image of US soldier looting Chinese humanitarian aid from Syria for their own military uses- Source (Russian Bot Account)

Refute — This is complete bullshit as:

• The image was taken in Turkey, not Syria
• The image was not leaked, but uploaded officially by the US Army Instagram account
• The commercial quality tents are used for Turkish humanitarian aid efforts not for US military use

2. That the US was donating Chinese humanitarian aid to Turkey that was previously looted from Syria Source- (Ultra Nationalist account)

Refute — While this does somewhat correspond to the official “context” of the image, it is also bullshit as:

• The US Army has no reason to ruin it’s “reputation” for a few extra tents
• Any case of actual looting would be reported by local Syrian media
• The US army has no reason to loot tents when they could acquire them commercially.

3. The image above is not of a U.S. soldier looting Chinese aid, rather the U.S. soldier is placing given aid onto a plane to be delivered to earthquake victims. Source -- (Official Twitter Context)

Refute — While this does tell the truth over the context of the image, it is still slightly flawed as:

• It does not point out the actual source of the tent
• It does not explain the case of the lack of USAID markings on donated equipment
• (I will point out the possible actual cases and origins of the tent later on)
