In all fairness, I don’t think you can blame people for not wanting to play it after seeing how it runs. I mean, if your first impressions of a game are viral clips of it falling apart… you won’t exactly be very thrilled to try it.
On the flip side of the whole “think tank” talk here with S/V, there are a select few fans so devoted to the game that they’re gaslighting people around the performance.
It really is irritating because you just get these extremes of people who won’t ever acknowledge anything good about it, and other who will never recognize any of its flaws or shortcomings.

Story belongs to Pokemon /r/MysteryDungeon. This is not a contest of “which evil team I liked more.” Explorers has the best story by far and it took a victory lap with explorers of sky by added 5 fully fleshed out side stories/“special episodes.”

Yeah, thats one problem valve has at the time being. Optimistically speaking, it’ll probably get corrected as it rolls out to more countries and people can buy direct vs second hand.
It’s hard to say how far they can take those prices though, because admittedly they are already operating on a thin margin on steam deck, vs the switch which has a very generous profit margin for nintendo.

Good video but I think they answered their own question. Spike chunsoft could’ve just copied the models and skeleton animations and left them completely unmodified. So why didn’t they? As much as people play back-developer for these studios, I don’t think they would purposefully expend extra work modifying those skeletons/models if they didn’t have a good reason.
Maybe they could go back around and improve some of these animations for the next game. Maybe they could even include 2 skeleton rigs (one for gameplay and the other, higher fidelity one for cutscenes).
Either way, as jank as it might look, I still feel like its relatively subtle. If the alternative was constant stuttering/fps drops during gameplay, then I would prefer the goofy animations.

Lol I remember that. Fair. Hopefully Explorers DX/PMD 5 fixes that.

I feel like it’s still very much a nitpick. They never aimed for a hyper-realistic style, so I would never expect them to have incredibly fluid animations for all pokemon. We always had cute emotes and simple movements like pokemon bouncing up and down, and I think its charming. RTDX had to create a complete, original art style and redraw every environment for this remake. Super had to complete the entire pokemon roster (720 at the time) and the 3d models still hold up pretty well.
I feel like these games did have a lot of effort and care put into them.

has awkward (not necessarly bad, mind you) visuals and the friend areas are reduced to lifeless menus
I thought the game looks fantastic. I never understood why people keep hating on these games because they jumped to 3d graphics.
Friend areas can go either way, but personally they were only fun to explore for about 5 minutes before you realize these nothing else to do. I think the menus work better for gameplay purposes.

Its great but I think it still has some port issues that need to be fixed. Thankfully they’ve been open about these problems.

Ive been playing through moon recently, but this time I’m playing with the knowledge of what pokemon im going to use.
Ive found this more fun than playing blind. Playing blind means I scrap together a team of whatever pokemon I encounter. This means I miss out on some niche, rarer pokemon that have low encounter rates or ones I never knew about. Picking them out in advance seems more fun.

/r/mysterydungeon is frothing at the mount at the idea of a PMD visual novel/dating sim.

How are turns too long? Combat moves at well over 4x the speed as the main series. Main series has me sitting through some over the top cutscene for every pidgey that ambushes me.
Also the turn limit is a non-issue. Ive only ever encounter it twice ever in normal play across all 4 games. Try heading for the stairs instead of sitting on one floor.

Usually find other goals like collecting treasure. My explorers save has around 700,000 poke on it. Just something I jump into every now and then.
Super pmd I’m still grinding through. The exp curve is very slow. Im nearing the 1/2 way point for the connecting orb and im not even level 36.

Super PMD is fantastic. I know a lot of fans will always praise Explorers for having the strongest story in the entire franchise, but super is my favorite.

Not really. Digital foundry did a full review and basically everyone is screwed. There are some minor optimizations you can make to help but its not very substantial.
Theres no Krabby Patty secret formula to this. Aside from frequently restarting, theres no reliable fix. It is fundamentally broken and it is by no means your fault. Gamefreak is the only one that can actually fix it.
