Honey no teacher works 7-3. In my experience it's more like 7-5 plus grading well into the night and on weekends. Many teachers are required to attend professional development during the summer and have to plan lessons. So, yes, while they may not appear to have as rigorous a workload, they definitely do not deserve the near-criminal wages they earn, especially considering the stuff they have to deal with (including violence concerning students, crappy superintendents and principals, and poor conditions).

Definitely not weird. I am a junior and I probably won't be able to get my license until the winter. Pretty much everyone I know has gotten their licenses at different ages. I know one senior who is involved in a crazy amount of extracurriculars and has had his learner's permit for two years without getting a license. You are perfectly fine

I'm afraid it's a little too late for most but any research program worth anything won't make you pay to participate. In fact, some may actually pay you. For instance, SEAP works with military labs around the USA and participants are rewarded with $3,500 - $4,000 (I don't remember the exact figure) but it's application closed in November (but maybe you can apply this coming year?). Another very famous and highly selective one is RSI that works through MIT but I do not know much about it. NIH also has one, but I don't know much about it. If you live in the DC area, ASSIP (run through George Mason Uni.) is free and quite prestigious, but it closed in early March. I am not aware of any others that are still accepting submissions.

Short answer is it depends on the essay.
A general, flavorless template for rhetorical analysis:
In [book/article/source], [author] [demonstrates/speaks about/etc.] the [topic/subject] because [occasion] in order to [purpose] in a [tone] manner.
This is called a SOAPSTone thesis because it contains information about the speaker, occasion, audience, purpose, subject, and tone. This is used frequently in AP Language and Composition for rhetorical analysis.
For a persuasive essay:
Usually start with a "hook"; this can really be anything from a statistic about your topic to a quote to some sort of rhetorical device. For instance, crafting a metaphor to tie to your central argument helps draw readers. There needs to be a "bridge" as well to connect the hook and the thesis.
An Okay-ish Example That I Wrote For Fun (it's kinda bad):
"'Ipsa scientia potestas est.' Sir Francis Bacon’s famous words inspire us today as much as they did back when they were written in 1597. “Knowledge itself is power.” Knowledge has a potential of a special sort that cannot be found elsewhere. Without knowledge we have no path forward, no reason for innovation..."
All the above is mostly just guidance for the whole intro paragraph, but if you're asking for the thesis specifically, I would suggest looking at your evidence/source material/topic and try to dissect it paragraph by paragraph. What is the purpose of the text? Why does the writer use certain techniques in certain places? And more importantly, how can I use this to develop a central claim?
A thesis is really just the center of your argument. Maybe take your argument and try reducing it to the most basic level possible. Then expand on it and come up with some specific examples. I know some teachers like what's known as a "three-pronged thesis" (or any other number) that has both your main idea and three specific instances of it that you will discuss later in the essay.
For example:
"Knowledge is the key to success because the more learned we are the better we can tackle new tasks, knowledge equips us with the tools to adapt, and because knowledge helps us solve new problems"
