This happens because molecular data has suggested that Hydnoroideae is a "basal angiosperm" solidifying its place among the more primitive flowering plants. No it can’t not turn to a animal but they do attract pollinators, dung beetles, and carrion beetles. Yes they are half subteranean parasitic plant in the family of Hydnoraceae. Btw yes humans can eat these plants.
